In a Cabinet session held today, the control issue of food safety sphere was discussed. The Armenian Government has toughened the safety norms of food supplied to kindergartens, schools and other educational institutions.
Changes were made in a number of decisions aimed at the strengthening of the control on sanitary rules and norms in the food safety sphere through one authorized body – the State Service for Food Safety of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Armenia.
“The objective of the project is the implementation of the regulatory activities over sanitary rules and norms in the food safety sphere in one authorized body which will result in the elimination of irregularities in the food safety sphere and the effective application of the laws on prevention policy” said the Minister of agriculture.
Prime Minister Hovik Abrahamyan reminded about the recent case of mass poisoning in a kindergarten of Yeghvard and mentioned the importance of strengthening the food control. The Prime Minister assured that he will personally see to it that the decision is enforced and in relation to it gave an assignment to the Head of the State Service for Food Safety.
