A meeting was held in the State Service for Food Safety of the Ministry of Agriculture on the 1st of October, 2014 in Yerevan. The guest was Dr. Tiffiani Miller Onifade the Director of Division of Food Safety of Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services who was invited by the State Service for Food Safety in the framework of the Professional Fellows Program. The aim of the visit was to enhance the cooperation between the food safety system of Armenia and Florida as well as exchange of information and experience sharing.
Agenda topics included the introduction of Food Safety Systems in Armenia and the comparison of the existing systems in Armenia and the State of Florida.
Mr. Abram Bakhchagulyan the Head of the State Service for Food Safety had a welcoming speech and briefly introduced the State Service for Food Safety, its objectives and challenges.
Dr. Tiffiani Miller Onifade delivered a presentation on the food safety system in Florida with emphasis on infrastructure risk based practices to protect public health and advances in technology for improved communication. She also discussed emerging issues facing the US food safety system, the Food Safety Modernization Act.
Then each of the departments of the State Service for Food Safety had short presentation of the main functions and activities of their departments which followed with question and answer session.
