By the initiative of the State Service for Food Safety of MOA, RA (hereinafter Service) and in the framework of World Bank’s “Food Safety Capacity Building” project a seminar-discussion was held in Yerevan on October 24-25 on “EEU cooperation issues in food safety sphere”.
Today both the national legislation and the EEU technical regulations are applied in Armenia but from January 2016 only EEU technical regulations will be applied. The Service in this context gives importance to the fact that the business entities and other stakeholders are informed and be ready for the new procedures till the changes will be done.
The officials of the Service, lecturers and economists made a speech at the conference on the technical regulations and the changes deriving from them. They gave information on the current developments in reference to the document circulation of food safety of EEU countries. The import and export procedures of animal origin food and the goods subject to phytosanitary supervision were also presented including the procedure of being included in the registers.
The steps in food safety sphere for the compliance of the legislative fields of member countries after joining EEU were of the agenda issues of the conference. It was noted that new supervisory mechanisms, new institutions of the delivery of services had been introduced. It was particularly stressed that almost the same functions and supervisory standards exist both in Armenia and Russia for the food producing and exporting business operators.
By the assessment of the participants the conference was useful in terms of awareness raising of the stakeholders on EEU cooperation issues in food safety sphere.
