ssfsHovhannes Mkrtchyan, the Head of the Veterinary Inspection of the State Service for Food Safety of MOA, RA (hereinafter Service) and Armen Avagyan, the Director of “Center of services for veterinary-sanitary, food safety and phytosanitary spheres,” SNCO reported details on the veterinary-epidemiological situation of Armenia particularly on the recently recorded brucellosis cases in the press conference on 30 April, 2015.

Hovhannes Mkrtchyan noted that currently there are not any cases of acute infectious diseases in the Republic.

Presenting the full picture of brucellosis in the Republic, he mentioned, there are 644 cases of bovine diseases at this moment, 285 cases of ovine diseases. The speakers highlighted that the implementation of the veterinary-epidemiological preventive measures in the scopes of the “Vaccination of agricultural animals” program was ongoing. Vaccinations were made against 9 diseases in 2015: brucellosis, foot and mouth disease, anthrax, pasteurellosis, bovine tuberculosis, blackleg, classical swine fever, pseudo plague of birds and bee varroatosis.

The speakers also answered the questions of the journalists, explaining the main reasons of infection penetration and the importance of sanitary-hygienic norms, urging consumers to avoid using animal byproducts of unknown origin or dairy products which have not undergone necessary heat processing.
