On October 26, 2017 the State Service for Food Safety of the Ministry of Agriculture of RA hosted the representatives of the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare. The purpose of the visit was to present to the Armenian food safety experts the international program on reduce the spread of antibiotic resistance and to define the general procedure for laboratory assessment of residue materials and antibiotics in food and to define the cooperation between Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan and Tajikistan.
The program will be implemented by the Federal Hygienic and Epidemiological Center and the Moscow Research Center for Epidemiology. During the two-day meetings the parties have discussed the possibilities and steps of the project implementation, in particular the legislative regulations on the use of antibiotics in food production, the laboratory and methodological control on antibiotics and residue quantities in food. The colleagues f the Federal Service for the Oversight of Consumer Protection and Welfare have got acquainted with the activities and technical capabilities of “Republican Veterinary-Sanitary and Phytosanitary Laboratory Services Center” SNCO of SSFS. Russian collegues will support the creation of an effective monitoring system and development of its methodology in the next two years. This project is planned to be fulfilled in 2019, before that training courses will be held for the specialists of the five countries.
