The official opening ceremony of the laboratory of the pesticide quality control was held today. Sergo Karapetyan, the Minister of Agriculture of RA, Ioannis Taghis, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to the Republic Armenia, Armen Ayrapetyan, the Head of the State Service for Food Safety of MOA of RA, Gayane Nasoyan, FAO assistant representative in Armenia, NGO representatives and other officials were present during the ceremony.
The laboratory was opened in the framework of the project “Support for pesticide quality control and residue monitoring in Armenia”, which was implemented by FAO in collaboration with RA Government.
The project was aimed at enabling Armenia to control the quality of the pesticides in accordance with international standards and to implement residue monitoring of pesticides to improve the agricultural products.
Expressing gratitude to the Government of Greece for its support to the laboratory establishment, the Minister of Agriculture emphasized the importance of the laboratory in our country and highlighted that the modern equipped laboratory which is unique in Armenia will enable to implement the testing of imported pesticides, as well as will ensure the quality improvement of food in Armenia.
He also congratulated the State Service for Food Safety for this achievement.
As well as, Ioannis Taghis, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Hellenic Republic to the Republic Armenia mentioned that he was looking forward to the future cooperation with the Ministry of Agriculture.
