On 29 October, Armen Ayrapetyan, the Head of the State Service for Food Safety of MOA, RA (hereinafter Service) met Major Eric Larsen, the Head of Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) of the US Department of Defense, Major Matthew Pope, the new Head of the program in Armenia.
The Head of the Service, welcoming the guests highly appreciated the activities of DTRA and the programs implemented by the agency in our country, highlighting the construction of the central veterinary laboratory. According to the plan, the Service will have a central veterinary laboratory in Avan, with modern equipment and highly qualified staff which would contribute to strengthening supervision in that field.
Speaking about the importance of laboratory diagnostics, the parties discussed the issue to optimize laboratories in the Republic and increase work efficiency. For that purpose the Service, as a first step, registered all laboratories in the country, including the provincial ones, assessed the current situation and resources.
The meeting focused on the prevention and combating of brucellosis, as well as collaboration opportunities in the framework of animal identification programs as well as cooperation perspectives were outlined.
